Beige Capital Savings and Loans was a microfinance institution that operated across Ghana, including the Bono Region, before its license was revoked by the Bank of Ghana in 2018. The institution served retail and small business clients with savings and loan products until it was affected by the financial sector cleanup.
Beige Capital Savings and Loans was a microfinance institution that operated multiple branches across Ghana, including in Sunyani, Bono Region, providing savings accounts, loans, and financial services primarily to retail customers and small businesses. The institution was part of Ghana's expanding microfinance sector until its operations were halted when the Bank of Ghana revoked its license on August 1, 2018, as part of a comprehensive financial sector cleanup. The company was owned by businessman Michael Nyinakudou and had grown to become one of the more visible savings and loans companies before its collapse.
Beige Capital was established in the early 2010s during Ghana's microfinance boom, when numerous savings and loans companies emerged to serve the unbanked and underbanked population. The institution expanded rapidly across Ghana's regions, including establishing a presence in Sunyani to serve the Bono Region's trading and farming communities. Its license revocation in 2018 came amid the Bank of Ghana's sector-wide reforms that affected over 300 financial institutions due to insolvency, regulatory breaches, and liquidity challenges, causing significant depositor losses.
Beige Capital Savings and Loans no longer operates as its license was revoked in 2018 and all branches, including the Sunyani location, have been closed. Former customers with unresolved claims were directed to the official Receiver appointed by the Bank of Ghana. For current banking and microfinance services in Sunyani, visitors should seek licensed financial institutions operating in the Bono Regional capital.
The collapse of Beige Capital and other savings and loans companies led to the Government of Ghana establishing a GHS 5 billion Financial Stability Fund and eventually paying validated claims of affected customers, making it one of the largest financial sector interventions in Ghana's history.
