The Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council is the administrative headquarters of the Ahafo Region, one of Ghana's sixteen regions created in 2019. It coordinates development planning, administration, and the activities of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies within the Ahafo Region. The council is headed by the Regional Minister appointed by the President of Ghana.
The Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council serves as the administrative headquarters of the Ahafo Region, Ghana's newest region created in December 2018 and inaugurated in February 2019. Located in Goaso, the capital town, it coordinates development planning, inter-governmental relations, and oversees the six Municipal and District Assemblies within the region. The council is led by a Regional Minister appointed by the President and supported by the Regional Coordinating Director and technical staff.
Ahafo Region was carved out of the former Brong-Ahafo Region following a referendum in December 2018, becoming Ghana's sixteenth region as part of the government's decentralization and administrative efficiency agenda. The region's creation fulfilled decades of agitation by the Ahafo people for their own administrative identity, distinct from the Brong area. Goaso was chosen as the regional capital due to its central location and existing administrative infrastructure.
The Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council offices are located in Goaso town center and operate during standard government working hours, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Visitors seeking official services or information should contact the council through the Regional Coordinating Director's office, though advance appointments are recommended for meetings with senior officials. Goaso is accessible by road from Kumasi (approximately 2 hours) and Sunyani (about 1.5 hours) via well-maintained highways.
Ahafo Region was the last of the six new regions created in 2018-2019 to be inaugurated, officially coming into existence on February 15, 2019, making it Ghana's youngest region administratively though the Ahafo people have a distinct cultural identity spanning centuries.
