Acherensua is a town in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region β a cocoa-farming community on the road between Goaso and Mim, in the heart of Ghana's forest belt. Acherensua sits in what was, until 2019, part of the Brong-Ahafo Region; following the referendum and the creation of the six new regions, Asunafo South was carved into the new Ahafo Region, with Goaso as the regional capital. The district itself was split from the old Asunafo District in 2008, and Acherensua is one of its larger settlements alongside Kukuom (the district capital), Sankore and Mim. The town's economy is overwhelmingly agricultural β cocoa above all, plus plantain, cassava, maize and oil palm. Like much of Ahafo, Acherensua's fortunes rise and fall with the cocoa season and with the producer price announced each year by COCOBOD. The area is also part of Ghana's timber country, and chainsaw milling and legal timber concessions have long shaped local livelihoods. Culturally, Acherensua is an Akan community β predominantly Asante and Bono in heritage β with Twi as the everyday language. Chieftaincy is organised around the traditional council structures of the area, and the town observes the customary festivals and funeral rites common to Ahafo. Education and health infrastructure in the district have improved over the years, though like many rural cocoa towns, Acherensua still looks to Goaso and Kumasi for secondary schooling, hospital care and major markets. The name itself carries the Akan root *nsuo* (water), a common element in forest-belt place names β fitting for a town set among the streams and farmlands of Ahafo. As the Akan say, *"Kuro bi so nyim nyansa"* β a town's wisdom is not the same as another's; every community, however small on the map, has its own story worth telling.
