The administrative headquarters of the Ahafo Region is **Goaso**, and the **Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (Ahafo RCC)** is based there. Goaso is a town in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region, and it serves as the seat of the Regional Minister and the RCC β the body that coordinates the activities of the various Municipal and District Assemblies in the region. The Ahafo RCC performs the same functions as the other regional coordinating councils: monitoring, harmonising and evaluating the plans and programmes of the districts, and serving as the link between central government and the local assemblies. The Ahafo Region itself was carved out of the then Brong-Ahafo Region and became one of Ghana's six newly created regions in 2019, following the December 2018 referendum. It was formally inaugurated on 13 February 2019, with Goaso as its capital. The region is made up of six districts: Asunafo North Municipal, Asunafo South, Asutifi North, Asutifi South, Tano North Municipal and Tano South Municipal. The region is well known for its natural resources β it sits in Ghana's cocoa and timber belt, and it is home to the Ahafo mine at Kenyase (operated by Newmont), one of the country's major gold-producing operations. That mix of cocoa, timber and gold gives the Ahafo RCC a busy coordinating role, since so much of the region's revenue and employment flows through those sectors. If you want the current Regional Minister or the latest RCC announcements, those change with appointments β the presidency.gov.gh site and the RCC's own offices in Goaso carry the most current names.
