Ananse Intelligence · Summary

The Atwima Nwabiagya District Assembly's administrative headquarters is at **Nkawie**, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Nkawie sits roughly 20–25 km west of Kumasi along the Kumasi–Bibiani road, and it serves as the seat of the District Chief Executive and the District Assembly. The district itself was carved out of the old Atwima District in 1988 and later split — Atwima Nwabiagya proper (with Nkawie as capital) and, in 2018, the new Atwima Nwabiagya North District, whose capital is Barekese. So today there are two sister districts: **Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal** (Nkawie) and **Atwima Nwabiagya North** (Barekese). The area is classic Asante heartland — cocoa and oil-palm country, with towns like Nkawie, Toase, Abuakwa, Barekese, Nkawie-Paninso and Afari. The Barekese Dam, which supplies much of Kumasi's piped water, lies within the northern district. The people are predominantly Asante, and the traditional authority is the Nkawie Traditional Council, under the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. If you need the Assembly's current DCE, the exact postal address, or a specific service (birth certificates, permits, land documentation), tell me which and I'll point you to the right office — or you can look it up on GhanaMann's directory under Government agencies, where district assemblies are listed with contact details.
