Boti Falls is one of Ghana's most beloved waterfalls, tucked in the Eastern Region near the town of Boti in the Yilo Krobo District, roughly 25 km northeast of Koforidua — the regional capital. The falls sit on the Boti River, which tumbles over a rocky escarpment in a twin cascade. The two streams are nicknamed "male" and "female": in the dry season the male (right) flows strongly while the female (left) thins to a trickle, and in the rainy season they merge into one powerful, thundering curtain. Local Krobo tradition holds that the two falls are a married couple, and that when they unite in the rains it is a sign of blessing on the land. Beneath the main drop is a cool plunge pool where visitors swim, and a short climb leads to the top of the falls for a sweeping view over the surrounding hills and the Krobo plains. Getting there: from Accra it's about a two-and-a-half to three-hour drive via Koforidua and the Asesewa road, turning off at the Boti junction. The site is managed with an entrance fee, a visitor centre, changing rooms, and a canopy walkway that was added to give a bird's-eye view of the gorge. The best time to visit is the rainy season (roughly April–July and September–October), when the volume is at its fullest — though the trails get slippery, so sturdy footwear matters. Nearby you can pair the trip with the Umbrella Rock and the Three-Headed Palm Tree on the same escarpment, plus the Krobo bead-making villages around Somanya and Odumase, where the famous recycled-glass beads (Krobo beads) are still made by hand. Many visitors combine Boti with a stop at the Tsenku Falls or a hike in the Atewa Range Forest Reserve. One practical note: the road from Koforidua to Boti has historically been rough in stretches, so a vehicle with good clearance is wise, and it's best to arrive before midday to enjoy the pool before the afternoon crowds. As the Akan say, *"Aboa a onni dua no, Onyame na ɔpra ne ho"* — the creature without a tail, God brushes its flies — meaning even the remote and unspoiled places are cared for; Boti is one of those quiet treasures worth the journey.
