**Flagstaff House** is the official seat and office of the President of Ghana, located in Accra near the 37 Military Hospital area, on the site historically known as Flagstaff House — now formally called **Jubilee House**. The original Flagstaff House was built in the colonial era (around the 1920s) as the residence of the British Gold Coast governor's chief of staff — hence the name, from the flagstaff that flew the colonial flag. After independence in 1957 it served various government purposes, and for decades the President of Ghana worked from **Osu Castle** (Christiansborg) as the seat of government. Under President **John Agyekum Kufuor**, the old Flagstaff House was demolished and a new presidential palace complex was built on the same site. It was inaugurated in **November 2008** and named **Jubilee House** to mark Ghana's 50th independence anniversary (the Golden Jubilee, 1957–2007). President **John Atta Mills** moved the seat of government there in **2009**, and it has been the working office and official residence of the President ever since — including under Mahama, Akufo-Addo, and now **President John Dramani Mahama**, who returned to Jubilee House after his swearing-in on 7 January 2025. So the two names are used interchangeably: **Flagstaff House** is the historic/geographic name, **Jubilee House** the official one. It houses the Office of the President, the Vice President's offices, cabinet and security infrastructure, and it is where the President receives visiting heads of state, accredits ambassadors, and signs major state documents. As the Akan say, *"Aban a ɛyɛ den no, ɛwɔ dua bi so"* — a strong government rests on a foundation. Jubilee House is that foundation for Ghana's presidency today. If you want, I can also walk you through Osu Castle's history as the former seat, or the presidents who have worked from each.
