**Koforidua Polytechnic became Koforidua Technical University (KTU) in 2016**, when it was elevated from polytechnic to full technical university status alongside five sister institutions under the Technical Universities Act, 2016 (Act 922). KTU sits in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region, and traces its roots to 1997, when it was established as Koforidua Polytechnic during Ghana's push to expand middle-level technical and vocational training. For nearly two decades it trained HND holders in engineering, business, applied science and applied arts. The 2016 conversion — the same wave that turned Accra Poly into Accra Technical University, Kumasi Poly into Kumasi Technical University, Ho Poly into Ho Technical University, Takoradi Poly into Takoradi Technical University, Cape Coast Poly into Cape Coast Technical University, and Sunyani Poly into Sunyani Technical University — was part of a deliberate national policy to give Ghana's polytechnics degree-awarding power and a stronger applied-research mandate. Today KTU offers both HND programmes and Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degrees, with faculties spanning Engineering, Applied Sciences and Technology, Business and Management Studies, Applied Arts and Technology, and Health Sciences. It runs campuses at Koforidua (the main site, off the Koforidua–Nsawam road) and satellite sites including the Koforidua Effiduase and Oyoko campuses. It is one of the technical universities under the supervision of the Ministry of Education through the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and it is a member of the Conference of Rectors and Vice-Chancellors of Ghanaian Universities (COREV-GU) and the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM). The university's Vice-Chancellor in recent years has been Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, who has led KTU through much of its post-conversion expansion. If you need the current VC, current enrolment figures, or this year's admission deadlines, those change and I'd rather point you to KTU's official site (ktu.edu.gh) than guess — say the word and I'll search deeper. For a student in Koforidua, the practical picture is this: KTU is the Eastern Region's main technical university, strong in engineering and applied arts, and a natural feeder for the region's manufacturing, energy and construction sectors. As the Akan proverb goes, *"Onipa nyɛ abɛ dua na ne ho ahyia ne ho"* — a person is not a palm tree that is self-sufficient; KTU's value lies in how it links its graduates to the region's industry.
