The Savannah Regional Coordinating Council (SRCC) is the regional administrative body for Ghana's Savannah Region, with its headquarters in **Damongo**, the regional capital. It is chaired by the **Savannah Regional Minister**, who serves as the political head of the region, supported by a Regional Coordinating Director as the chief civil servant. The Savannah Region was carved out of the Northern Region and formally created in **2019**, following the December 2018 referendum in which the people of the area voted overwhelmingly for the split. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated it as one of six new regions on **12 February 2019**, with Damongo named as its capital. The region comprises seven districts: West Gonja (Damongo), Central Gonja (Buipe), East Gonja (Salaga), North East Gonja (Kpalbe), North Gonja (Daboya), Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, and Bole. The SRCC's mandate mirrors that of every RCC in Ghana: it coordinates the activities of the district assemblies under it, monitors development projects, supervises decentralised departments, and serves as the link between central government and the grassroots. Damongo itself is historically significant as the seat of the **Yagbonwura**, the paramount chief of Gonjaland and overlord of the Gonja traditional area — making the town both a political and a traditional capital, a rare convergence. The region is also notable as the home area of President **John Dramani Mahama**, whose father's roots lie in the Gonja tradition, and it hosts the **Mole National Park** — Ghana's largest and most famous wildlife reserve — in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district. If you're looking for the current Regional Minister or specific SRCC contact details, those change with appointments and reshuffles — the SRCC offices are in Damongo, and the presidency's official gazette or the SRCC secretariat itself would carry the latest.
