Sunyani Technical University (STU) is one of Ghana's key technical institutions, and it has been a major contributor to technical education in the Bono Region and beyond since its founding. **Origins and status.** STU began in 1967 as Sunyani Technical Institute, was upgraded to a polytechnic (Sunyani Polytechnic) in the 1990s under Ghana's polytechnic reforms, and was converted into a full technical university in 2016 alongside other polytechnics (Accra, Kumasi, Ho, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Koforidua, Tamale, Bolgatanga). It sits in the Bono Regional capital, Sunyani — a natural hub for the middle belt of Ghana. **What it offers.** STU runs faculties and departments spanning engineering (mechanical, electrical/electronic, civil), applied sciences, built environment, business and management, and applied arts. It awards HNDs, BTechs, and increasingly degrees and postgraduate qualifications. Its mandate is explicitly technical and vocational — producing hands-on engineers, technologists, and technicians rather than purely academic graduates. **Contribution to technical education in the region.** STU is the principal tertiary technical institution serving Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo — the old Brong-Ahafo space. It supplies the region's technical workforce: engineers for the construction, energy, and agro-processing sectors; technicians for the growing industrial and mining belt; and business/IT graduates for the region's SMEs. It also runs outreach, skills training, and research relevant to local industry, and it feeds students into national technical and professional bodies. **Regional and national role.** Alongside its sister technical universities, STU helps close Ghana's skills gap — the shortage of middle-level technical manpower that the country's industrialization agenda (One District One Factory, agro-processing, oil and gas, renewable energy) depends on. Its Sunyani location makes technical higher education accessible to students who would otherwise migrate to Kumasi or Accra. If you want, I can go deeper on a specific angle — STU's current Vice-Chancellor, admission requirements, specific programmes, or how it compares with Kumasi Technical University. Just say which.
