**Duayaw Nkwanta is the capital of Tano North Municipal Assembly**, one of the municipal assemblies in the Ahafo Region of Ghana. The municipality was carved out of the old Tano District and elevated to municipal status, with its administrative seat at Duayaw Nkwanta. Tano North sits in the northern part of Ahafo, with its capital Duayaw Nkwanta lying along the main Kumasi–Sunyani road corridor. The municipality is bordered by Tano South to the south, Asutifi North and Asunafo North to the west, and Bono East Region (Techiman area) to the east and north. It is a largely Akan (Bono) area, with Twi as the dominant language, and the people are known for farming — cocoa, maize, cassava, plantain and cashew — as well as trading and small-scale enterprise. The assembly is a Municipal Assembly under Ghana's local government system, headed by a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) appointed by the President in consultation with the traditional authorities and the assembly members, working alongside a Municipal Coordinating Director as the chief civil servant. It has the usual sub-structures — zonal councils and unit committees — and its members include elected assembly members plus government appointees and the Member of Parliament as an ex-officio member. Politically, Tano North is in the Ahafo Region and its parliamentary seat is currently held by **Dr. Gideon Boako** of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who won the seat in the 2024 general election. The municipality's traditional centre is Duayaw Nkwanta, whose traditional authority is headed by a chief (Omanhene) under the Asante-influenced Bono chieftaincy structure of the Ahafo area.
