The Savannah Regional Coordinating Council (SRCC) is the regional administrative body headquartered in **Damongo**, capital of the **Savannah Region** β one of the six new regions created by the Akufo-Addo government and inaugurated on **27 December 2018** after the December 2018 referendum. The Savannah Region was carved out of the old Northern Region, and its territory covers the western half of what used to be the Northern Region β the Gonja kingdom heartland, plus areas like Bole, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, North Gonja, Central Gonja, East Gonja, West Gonja and North East Gonja. Damongo, seat of the Yagbonwura (the overlord of Gonjaland), was chosen as the regional capital. The SRCC sits under the Office of the Local Government Service, with a **Regional Minister** as its political head and a **Regional Coordinating Director** as the chief administrative officer, coordinating the district assemblies in the region, monitoring development projects, and liaising with the presidency and the Local Government Ministry. The region is rich in heritage and nature β Mole National Park (Ghana's largest), the Larabanga Mosque (one of West Africa's oldest mud-and-stick mosques), the Mystic Stone, and the Buipe and Yapei crossings on the Volta. Its economy leans on agriculture (yam, maize, groundnuts, shea, cattle), fishing along the Black and White Volta, and increasingly tourism. On the current Regional Minister β that's a position that changes with reshuffles, and I don't have a verified name for the sitting minister as of October 2026. Check the SRCC's official channels or the Ministry of Local Government for the incumbent. As the Gonja say, *"Kurubi ye kpani"* β the canoe belongs to the elder; the region's traditional authority and the council work hand in hand.
